American Film Market 2026 Launches AFM House, a 15,000 Sq Ft Innovation Hub for AI and Tech Companies

The American Film Market has announced AFM House, a new dedicated venue for its Innovation Hub at the November 2026 market. The 15,000 sq ft indoor and outdoor space at The Pavilion at Century Park will host AI startups, tech companies, and new programming across four of the market's five days.

AFM 2026 runs November 10 to 15 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles. AFM House operates November 11 to 14 at 2000 Avenue of the Stars, Century City. The venue is a structural change from the 2025 pilot, which offered Innovation Hub sessions and meeting space but no dedicated facility.

What AFM House Is

AFM House gives AI companies a physical address inside the world's largest independent film market. The 15,000 sq ft includes indoor meeting areas and outdoor space. Companies registered for the Innovation Hub gain access to the venue, its programming, and the broader AFM buyer and seller community at the Fairmont Century Plaza.

The move signals that IFTA, the International Film and Television Alliance that produces AFM, now treats AI companies as commercial participants rather than exhibitors in a side program. A dedicated venue operates on the same footing as the main market, not as a separate event that happens to share the same week.

The Cannes Next Partnership

The 2026 Innovation Hub is built in partnership with Cannes Next, the AI and emerging technology section of the Marché du Film at Cannes. Cannes Next has operated since 2023 as the designated space at the world's most prominent festival market for AI, XR, and technology companies with applications for the film industry.

The AFM partnership connects the two largest film markets on the international calendar. A company that appears in Cannes Next in May and AFM House in November has a presence at both major market moments of the year. That combination is now available as a structured annual path, not an informal arrangement.

The AFM is the largest independent film market in the world, drawing buyers, sellers, and distributors from more than 70 countries. It operates as a commercial marketplace for licensing and distribution rights, separate from the programming and award functions of a film festival.

Adding a dedicated AI venue at a commercial rights market is a different kind of signal than programming AI sessions at a festival. Buyers and sellers at AFM are making deals. An AI company in AFM House is positioned as a partner in those transactions, not an exhibit item in a technology showcase.

The 2025 Pilot

The 2025 AFM was the first year the Innovation Hub operated at the market. That edition featured AI startup sessions, panel discussions, and meeting areas under the hub designation. It ran without a dedicated building or the Cannes Next branding.

The step from 2025 to 2026 is from a branded section within the hotel to a named venue with its own address. The Pavilion at Century Park is a separate facility from the Fairmont Century Plaza. Companies in AFM House in 2026 have their own entrance, their own venue identity, and a direct connection to the Cannes Marché du Film programming track.

Theme: The New Global Screen Economy

IFTA has positioned AFM 2026 under the theme "The New Global Screen Economy." The phrase covers coproduction finance, international distribution, and the structural changes AI is introducing across content creation, localization, and marketing.

The Hollywood Reporter's coverage of AFM 2026 framed the theme as a response to accelerating shifts in how film and television content is financed, made, and distributed internationally. AI is one driver of those shifts. The AFM House Innovation Hub is how the market is giving that driver a commercial address.

TIFF's 2026 Innovation Hub focused on XR and AI content, positioning the festival as a discovery space for emerging technology. The AFM House model takes the same concept into a commercial context. The goal is not discovery but deal-making. A technology company in AFM House is there to find distribution, licensing, and production partners, not to present work in progress.

AI at Both Major Markets

Locarno's counter-algorithm programming in July 2026 showed one end of the festival response spectrum, curating films that address AI as a subject while the industry debates its role. AFM House shows the other end. It treats AI companies as commercial participants whose products belong in the same conversation as distribution rights and coproduction agreements.

Both positions are responses to the same structural shift. AI tools, AI studios, and AI companies are now present at every level of the film industry calendar, from research festivals to commercial markets. The Google and A24 partnership announced in June 2026 was a deal between an AI company and a production studio. AFM House creates the physical space where similar deals can be initiated at scale, with buyers and sellers from more than 70 countries in the same building.

What This Means for AI Companies

A company that makes tools, produces content with AI, or offers services built on generative models now has a designated entry point into the independent film market. AFM House removes the question of where an AI company belongs at the market. It belongs in AFM House, in the same location as the Cannes Next programming it connects to from May.

This is the second year of the Innovation Hub and the first year with a dedicated venue. If the pattern continues, the AFM House model will become a standard fixture of the market calendar, like the EFM in Berlin or the Marché in Cannes. AI companies planning their international market strategy for 2026 and 2027 now have a clear target on the Los Angeles calendar.

For filmmakers and creators who want to work with the AI tools these companies are building, AI FILMS Studio's video workspace provides access to text-to-video and image-to-video generation without a market badge or licensing agreement.
